ST. PETERSBURG | The 17th annual St Pete Pride, which sashays through the Sunshine City June 21-23, promises to be its loudest and proudest yet.

It follows last year’s successful Sweet 16, which welcomed 250,000 attendees over Pride weekend, around 15,000 shy of St. Petersburg’s entire estimated population. It was a feat that longtime LGBTQ ally and Pride supporter St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman welcomes yet again.

TIGLFF announces ‘Evolution of Drag’ fundraiser

The Tampa Bay International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (TIGLFF) has announced “The Evolution of Drag: Drag through the Decades!”—scheduled for June 1 at the Palladium in St. Petersburg—will serve as a fabulous fundraiser benefiting their upcoming 30th anniversary.

The drag production is described as a mixture of comedy, dance and history. Through the eyes of a drag queen, it transports audiences with “an exhilarating voyage through ten decades and has packed houses near and far!”

2019 WAVE Award Spotlight: Daphne Ferraro

At nearly 6 feet 6 inches tall, fans and friends notice when Daphne Ferraro enters a room and takes center stage. It isn’t just because of her height, however, even if she is affectionately referred to as the “Tallest Drag Queen in Captivity.” It’s also because of her heart.

“We have such an incredible community,” Ferraro says of her four years of entertaining as show director at Enigma St. Pete, the WAVE Award winner for Favorite Local Club/Bar and more. “I’ve found a home at Enigma. Every week when I’m getting ready I think about the people I’m going to see—and when I go home I think about how grateful I am for those people. They’re a part of me and I’m so glad to be a part of them. I’ve never felt so energized and excited by any other booking.”

ST. PETERSBURG | Tampa Bay celebrated the 2019 WAVE Awards on March 8 at the newly-remodeled and WAVE Award winning Metro Inclusive Health.

All of the evening’s eats and entertainment were provided by fellow WAVE Award winners. The Stuffed Mushroom served fine hors d’oeuvres, Miguel Fuller of The Miguel & Holly Show hosted the festivities and DJ Duane Cook kept the crowd moving as Alyssa, Boys’ Entrance, Daphne Ferraro, Matthew McGee and Victoria Michaels wowed the crowd with their performances.

ST. PETERSBURG | St. Pete Pride celebrated its 16th parade in style  June 23 along downtown St. Petersburg’s waterfront.

The party officially began at 2 p.m. with fan-favorite entertainers Kori Stevens and Daphne Ferraro kicking off festivities in both North and South Straub Park, readying Pride-goers for the evening parade which began at 7 p.m. with the second annual TransPride March. Hot 101.5’s Miguel & Holly hosted the evening as friends, families and floats invaded Bayshore Dr. en masse.

Tampa Pride kicks off fundraising with a Spooktacular Halloween party

Tampa Pride won’t be held until March 24 next year, but fundraising officially began with a bang and a boo on Oct. 19 at Hamburger Mary’s Brandon.

The event’s board, its sponsors and the Mary’s crew joined forces for the “Spooktacular Halloween Kick Off Party,” and Watermark was on hand to celebrate Tampa Pride 2018’s official launch. The audience was treated to a fantastic show hosted by Desireé DeMorney, with special performances by Chris Knolton and the Sanderson Sisters themselves: Daphne Ferraro, Kathryn Nevets and Chi Chi LaLique.

First Annual Miss Comedy Queen All Star Pageant

Trixie Deluxxe hosted the First Annual Miss Comedy Queen All Star Pageant at Parliament House June 4, with all proceeds benefiting the John Tweeka Barber Fund.

Gidget Galore ate half of a Publix cake onstage, threw it in the trash, had second thoughts and took it out and ate more, to the sounds of screams of encouragement from the audience.
