FUNNY LADY

Actor and comedian Amy Schumer seems to have a love/hate relationship with the city of Tampa. She wrote about the city in her recently released book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, where she called Tampa “horrendous” and wrote that she wasn’t scared about criticizing the people of Tampa Bay because, “I know for a fact that no one who lives there has ever read a book. JKJKJKJKJK, but kind of not K.”

Schumer came to Tampa Oct. 16 where she held a concert at the Amalie Arena for the first time since her book came out. During the show Schumer took her act political and brought a Trump supporter on stage to ask him why he supported Trump. “ I’m not voting for Trump, I’m voting against Hillary,” the Tampa man said.

Proud Mary’s wheels are turnin’

After a summer of teasing from Mary letting the St. Pete area know that a new Hamburger Mary’s would be moving into the neighborhood, it finally happened. Hamburger Mary’s—or as this location is known, Sunshine City Mary’s—is opened for business. If the first few weeks are any indication, that business won’t be slowing down anytime soon.

The doors opened Aug. 25 and the guests started coming; including a “welcome to the neighborhood” greeting from Punky’s Brian Longstreth. Sunshine City Mary’s is located across from Tyrone Square Mall in the old Hooters building. Anyone who has been to any of the Hamburger Mary’s locations across the country, or one of the other two Bay Area locations, knows that a trip to Mary’s isn’t just about the food (don’t get us wrong, the food is reason enough to go), it’s the show that goes with it.

ST. PETERSBURG The state of Florida has the opportunity to elect five openly LGBT people to the State Legislature this election year. One of those seats is House Seat 70 where gay business owner Dan Fiorini is running against former St. Petersburg City Councilman Wengay Newton and Palmetto personal injury attorney C.J. Czaia.

“There are three of us in this race, and this is going to be won in the primary. No Republican has ever gotten more than 20 percent of the vote in this seat, so whoever wins on August 30 is going to win the general,” Fiorini says, sitting in Tyrone Frames and Mirrors, the framing shop he has owned and operated in St. Petersburg since 2010.

Russell is Tampa Pride’s emeritus
Tampa Pride is only a month away. And who better to serve as queen for the inaugural pride festival on March 28 than Esme Russell. Russell, a performer, radio personality, Hamburger Mary’s hostess and all-around activist for equality, was selected as Miss Tampa pride emeritus 2015. A formal crowning and ceremony will be coming soon, but expect to see Tampa native of Cuban descent all over the pride festivities in an official capacity

G.Bar isn’t going anywhere
We can admit when we jump the gun on things in this column. When we recently reported that all signs pointed to the forthcoming sale of G.Bar to a bar owner in Orlando, we truly believed our sources. But, the always gracious G.Bar owner Steve Moss set the record straight for us, sharing that the bar hasn’t been sold and that it isn’t going anywhere in the foreseeable future. We were right, though, when we reported that owners of Southern Nights in Orlando expressed interest in the popular Ybor club. Moss said there were inquiries made and a few discussions, but nothing ever came of it. There was a liquor inventory reduction sale, which led us to believe a sale was in the future. But apparently, the sale was exactly what it said it was—a way to reduce inventory and make room for more booze.  We’re relieved the Ybor staple is sticking around!
