Aussie actress Ruby Rose suits up as ‘Batwoman’ in new CW series

As the Gotham City crime fighter Kate Kane in “Batwomam,” Ruby Rose’s character is one for the history books, as the first lesbian superhero in a leading television role. It’s been a fast-moving ride to the top for the young Australian actress/model, who caught everyone’s eye back in 2014 when she created “Break Free,” a short film on gender fluidity.

The YouTube video has been viewed more than 51 million times. Rose had no idea the impact it would make on her career.

Colton Haynes opened up about his pill addiction with a series of throwback photos including some pictures of the “Arrow” star in the hospital.

“Throwback. I don’t want worrying about if I look hot or not on Instagram to be my legacy,” Haynes captioned the photos. “I don’t want to skirt around the truth to please other people or to gain economic success. I have far more important things to say than what magazine I just shot for or what tv show I’m a part of (Although I’m very thankful I still get to do what I love). I no longer want to project a curated life.”

Rose, who identifies as a gender-fluid woman and a lesbian, told Entertainment Weekly for the publication’s LGBTQ special issue that people have reacted negatively to her two identities.

The CW released the first full trailer for its new series “Batwoman,” starring Ruby Rose.

Rose, who identifies as a lesbian and gender-fluid, portrays Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s cousin. In the trailer, Kate is distressed when her love interest Sophie (Megan Tandy) is kidnapped. Kate finds Bruce’s secret lair and decides to suit up in his batsuit to rescue Sophie and save Gotham.

Damon Wayans Jr. issued an apology to the LGBT community after past homophobic tweets resurfaced.

In the tweets, which date back to 2010 and 2011, Wayans tweeted: “Being on the road during the day sucks tranny balls.” He called another user “tranny” and used the homophobic slur “faggot” and the phrase “no homo.”

Nicole Maines will portray Nia Nal, whose alter-ego is Dreamer, on “Supergirl.” The 21-year-old actress is also transgender like her character.

“Arrow” revealed that one of its major characters is gay in the second episode of its seventh season.

The episode titled “The Longbow Hunters,” which aired on Monday, featured a flash forward with Oliver’s son William now all grown up. William is reunited with Roy and gives a quick rundown of what he’s been up to in an off-hand comment about his sexuality.

Nicole Maines, a transgender activist and actress, has been cast as Nia Nal (aka Dreamer) on the CW’s “Supergirl” making her the first transgender superhero in the history of television.

The 20-year-old actress’ casting was announced at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. Nia will appear in the upcoming fourth season as a regular. She will work as a reporter alongside Kara (Supergirl).

“Batwoman” is being developed into a TV series for consideration at CW with a lesbian superhero lead, according to Deadline.

Out showrunner Greg Berlanti, known for the CW’s Arrowverse, and executive producer Caroline Dries (“The Vampire Diaries”), who is an out lesbian, are working on a series launch set for 2019.

“Supergirl” is casting a transgender character for a new role in season four.

Cast It Talent posted a casting call for a character called Nia Nal. The description reads: “Transgender woman, early 20s, open ethnicity. A confident, wunderkind of a fashionista. Once a political speechwriter, Nia is the newest addition to the Catco investigative reporting team. With her she brings sparkling wit and biting humor but under that banter-y, chic façade, lays a soulful young woman who has much to offer the world. A young ‘Cat Grant’ type.”
