Michael Sam to appear on season 20 of DWTS

Michael Sam will strut his stuff as one of the cast members for the upcoming 20th season of “Dancing With The Stars.” It was announced Feb. 24 Sam will be on the show, paired with professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd.

Sam was the first openly gay drafted NFL player, who was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round but released before the start of the season. He later signed to the Cowboys’ practice squad and was then cut in October 2014.

Gay World Series coming to Tampa?
Well, it’s way too early to say for sure, but there is interest in bringing the Gay Softball World Series to Tampa Bay in the not-too-distant future. Organizers of the Suncoast Softball League met this week to discuss the dynamics of bringing the national tournament to Tampa Bay. Details are scarce, and the GSWS certainly wouldn’t come to us in 2015 since it’s already scheduled for Aug. 17-22, 2015, in Columbus, Ohio. But the league has discussed the pursuit been discussing pursuing the long-running series for nearly a year now. Things like the economic impact of the series has helped other cities embrace the tournament. With Tampa Bay’s welcoming cities, we’re hopeful this could become a reality!

The cowboys/cowgirls are coming
It’ll be boots, buckles, Stetson hats and chaps on the stage in the Flamingo Blu Room Nov. 8 as the Florida/Georgia Gay Rodeo Association holds its Mr./Ms./Miss/MsTer FGRA competition. The royalty competition puts participants in several categories, including personal interview, public presentation, horsemanship, western wear and entertainment. The four divisions, in case you are wondering, are for men, women, drag queens and drag kings. The title holders will have the responsibility of promoting the sport of rodeo while being an advocate for charitable organizations and causes. Contestants don’t have to be members of the LGBT community to participate. Boots, Buckles, Crowns and Sashes begins at noon on Saturday, Nov. 8. Cowboys release Michael Sam from practice squad

IRVING, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys released defensive end Michael Sam from the practice squad Oct. 21, another setback as the NFL’s first openly gay player tries to make an active roster during the regular season for the first time.

Sam spent seven weeks with the Cowboys after signing to their practice squad on Sept. 3, four days after he was among the final cuts by the St. Louis Rams at the end of the preseason.

Michael Sam makes progress on practice squad

Dallas, Tex. – Michael Sam is hoping to play in an NFL game this season, which would make him the first openly gay player to do so. According to his position coach, Sam is making progress on the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys.

“He’s done some good things,” defensive line coach Rod Marinelli told the Dallas Morning News. “The only thing he really gets is some of our individual periods and then he gets some one-on-one rushes on Wednesday, and I think he’s gotten a little bit better.
