MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — A gay man in eastern Kentucky has lost his bid to challenge Republican county clerk Kim Davis, who went to jail three years ago for denying him and others marriage licenses in the aftermath of an historic U.S. Supreme Court decision.

David Ermold sought the Democratic nomination in Tuesday’s primary in Rowan County, Kentucky. He lost to Elwood Caudill Jr. in a four-way Democratic primary, despite a campaign that raised more than $200,000 with donations from at least 48 states.

West Virginia county clerk office to apologize to lesbian couple

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – A lesbian couple are receiving a public apology and $10,000 in damages from a county clerk’s office in West Virginia where they were disparaged when applying for a marriage license last year, the couple’s attorneys said Aug. 30.

Amanda Abramovich and Samantha Brookover sued Gilmer County Deputy Clerk Debbie Allen and Clerk Jean Butcher, saying Allen told the couple while processing their application that they were an “abomination,” what they were doing was wrong and that God would “deal” with them.

North Port approves Human Rights Ordinance

North Port, Fla. – The North Port City Commission voted 3-1 to approve a city wide Human Rights Ordinance Oct. 27.

The HRO bans discrimination against employment, housing and public accommodations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

San Diego clerk pulls back from fight for Prop 8

San Diego (AP) – San Diego’s county clerk, the man charged with issuing marriage licenses there and the most prominent public figure to move against gay marriage in California since its recent resumption, has withdrawn a legal bid to stop the practice, saying he was ceding the fight to a group that already has a similar challenge pending.

Ernest Dronenburg Jr. said in a statement Aug. 5 that he was withdrawing his request for the state Supreme Court to halt gay weddings because the sponsors of a 2008 ballot measure to ban same-sex marriage have filed a similar petition.

San Diego clerk requests halt to gay marriages

San Francisco (AP) – The San Diego County clerk has asked the state Supreme Court to stop gay marriages.

Ernest Dronenburg Jr. urged the state high court to immediately halt same-sex weddings while it considers his legal arguments that gay marriages remain illegal in California despite a U.S. Supreme Court’s decision widely regarded as authorizing gay weddings.
