Geeks, nerds and comic book enthusiasts come in all shapes, sizes and colors … including rainbow.

Comic book conventions, or comic cons as they are called, have become cultural phenomenons in recent years. They’re places where celebrities from renowned movies, television and literature in genres ranging from fantasy and horror to superhero and science fiction (sci-fi) hold panel discussions and meet fans. More than that, these comic cons are LGBTQ safe spaces.

Spooky Empire brings the scares before Christmas after Hurricane Matthew forces reschedule

Spooky Empire – the leading horror, fantasy and sci-fi convention – returned to Orlando despite having to reschedule the original October dates thanks to Hurricane Matthew.

Packed with iconic horror celebrities from the legendary Elvira, a.k.a. Cassandra Peterson, to the newest kids on the block ,the cast from the hit Netflix show Stranger Things. The weekend included lots of cosplayers, and even local celeb Joey Fatone, a total fan of the genre, got in on the fun.

If your inner, or outer, geek is looking for a place to fly its flag this weekend, Central Florida’s big pop culture convention, MegaCon, has begun.

MegaCon is expected to generate $23 million for the local economy Last year, the convention saw 80,000 attendees on its busiest day. This year looks
to be even bigger, with guests like pro wrestler Hulk Hogan, Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee, actor Ron Perlman, and cast members from Firefly, The
Walking Dead, Adventure Time and The Princess Bride, among many others.
