Sexuality, gender and the role of comedy headline Australian comedian Hannah Gadsby’s comedy tour “Nanette,” now presented on Netflix.

Named after a girl Gadsby believed interesting, the hour-long comedy special is a departure from Gadsby’s normal comedy routines, including a “third” part to her story: an ending (Gadsby tells the audience that the difference between a story and a joke is that a story has a beginning, a middle and end, and a joke just has a beginning and middle).

Jeff Jones will tell you that he isn’t a gay comedian; he’s a comedian who happens to be gay. He’s also an actor, producer and playwright, one who frequents Orlando and Tampa and that’s even shared the stage with late comedic icon Joan Rivers.

On Nov. 8, Tampa Bay residents will get to experience Jones for themselves as drag and comedy collide for his “Pink Collar Comedy Show,” a night of laughter and drag divas with Brian Bradley, Carol Lee and Trixxie Deluxxe.

Comedian Mike Delamont brings judgment, and laughs, with his successful stage series ‘God is a Scottish Drag Queen’

Mike Delamont is a critically acclaimed and award winning comedian from the Great White North, and he has sold out show after show at Orlando Fringe and at Fringe festivals across the world. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, that’s because Delamont’s fame doesn’t come from his own name, it comes from his character, which throughout the festival circuit, and a few religious organizations, is larger than life. Delamont is God, but not just any God, he is God the Scottish Drag Queen.

Delamont’s show, God is a Scottish Drag Queen, of which he performed Part IV at this year’s Orlando Fringe, has made him the talk of any festival at which he performs. Now, on the heels of filming a television special, Delamont is bringing Parts I and II of his successful God is a Scottish Drag Queen series to the Plaza LIVE. Delamont spoke with Watermark ahead of the show to let us know what we can expect from God and when we might get a peek at the Devil.

Comic genius: An interview with Jessica Kirson

Aside from death and taxes, few things in life are certain. However, you can be sure of two things when you attend a show by out comic Jessica Kirson. You will laugh so much that you will be in physical pain (but you won’t mind) and you will probably find something offensive in her act (but you won’t mind).

The most refreshing and original comic on the scene, Kirson competed on NBC’s Last Comic Standing and has had her praises sung by comic goddess Joy Behar. Her elastic face and gift for voices take Kirson’s comedy to another level altogether. Before starting her 2014 tour, which stops at the University of Tampa on March 26 at 8 p.m. Kirson talked with us about her work.

A leaner queen of mean returns to Orlando

Lisa Lampanelli is the Salt & Vinegar potato chip of stand-up comics. That first bite is oh-so-acidic while the follow-up stings in an aggressive attack on the senses. It’s both salty and sour, and – somewhat shamefully – completely addictive.

Of course, comparing the comedian who recently lost over 100 pounds to a greasy, unhealthy snack food might seem a bit insensitive…but we’re pretty sure she’d approve. Famous for her sharp-tongued attacks from the dais on a multitude of celebrity roasts – among her victims: Chevy Chase, Pamela Anderson, Donald Trump and William Shatner – Lampanelli gets as good as she gives.

From stand-up act to actor, wherever Russell Brand goes, controversy is sure to follow

You most likely know Russell Brand from his starring roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him To The Greek, the recent remake of Arthur, and the film adaptation of the 80’s-set musical Rock of Ages. You probably also know him from his televised appearances hosting the 2008 and 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, as well as a 2011 episode of Saturday Night Live. (If you’re from Brand’s UK homeland, you no doubt know him from his work on several Big Brother spin-off shows.)

You may even know Brand from his stand-up comedy act, which is frequently influenced by his prior drug use, alcoholism, and promiscuity. Or perhaps he’s familiar because of his consistent public support of the LGBT community as a straight ally. And, presumably, you know Brand as the likely inspiration behind several of ex-wife Katy Perry’s latest chart-topping hits.
