BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Educators and parents in southern Indiana are calling for more training and awareness of the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students after a high school’s failed attempt to establish a “Straight Pride” club.

A group of students at Bloomington High School North had proposed starting the faith-based club in the 2015-16 school year. Principal Jeff Henderson said federal law required the school to allow the club, which students had said would offer “specific supports for heterosexual students.”

Overheard in Orlando: Headdress Ball competition hoping to shine like a diamond for 25th anniversary

Off with their Headdress
With the celebration of 25 years of the Headdress Ball fast approaching, the Hope & Help Center has made a major change to its usual Vegas-like flair. While the organization will focus on the last 25 years of its diamond anniversary, it will drop the featured Headdress competition. The change brought out the claws as glue guns were put away. The lack of a competition drew some criticism from a few local crafters who had already started to stock up on materials. This year organizers of the event will work with supporters and partners across to create custom built headdresses themed after each year of the Headdress Ball. Those creations will be integrated as part of the show rather than having its own dedicated segment of the evening. This will allow for a smoother flow of events. The Headdress Ball is Sept. 20 at the Hilton Orlando.

Brink-ing Back the Drama
It looks like there’s been a shake-up in management at The Brink. According to a post on Facebook by Christopher Tanzi, who has essentially been the face of the bar for more than a year, his business partnership with Jan Harold has fizzled. In related news, Firestone Live is rumored to be bringing back its LGBT nights later this summer. In the mid- to late-90s the Club at Firestone was known as one of the top clubs in the nation, at one point hosting two LGBT nights before an abrupt change to the format.
