Legendary performer Joel Grey headlines the Garden Theatre’s 10-year anniversary celebration

Few entertainers are as synonymous with a character they have portrayed as legendary actor Joel Grey is with the Emcee from Cabaret. Grey does not so much act the part as embody the character and become the master of ceremonies at the fictional Kit Kat Club in 1930s Berlin.

Grey performed in the original Broadway run of Cabaret as well as the 1972 film version, winning a Tony Award and an Academy Award for the same role. He is one of only nine performers to do so.

Cleveland Gay Games brings most revenue in event’s history

CLEVELAND (AP) – Organizers say last summer’s Gay Games in northeast Ohio raised the most revenue in the event’s history.

Gay Games 9 Executive Director Thomas Nobbe says the August event held in Cleveland and Akron raised $6.8 million in revenue, netting a small profit of nearly $150,000.

Floridians score Gay Games medals

Several local Floridians left Cleveland’s Gay Games IX with some new hardware. Athletes from both Orlando and Tampa Bay claimed top prizes and posted about their victories on Facebook or contacted Watermark directly about their wins.

Interestingly, the Gay Games organization does not issue the press a list of medal winners, so there is no comprehensive way of knowing exactly who won what, unless individual athletes share it on social media or email outlets directly.

Cleveland give a warm reception to Gay Games 2014

Cleveland (AP) – Nick Gill says he was warned by a teammate on his indoor volleyball team about what Cleveland might be like before they left Portland, Maine, for the Gay Games this week.

“He was telling us horror stories about growing up here,” Gill said Thursday while watching the beach volleyball tournament at a lakeside park just outside downtown Cleveland, which is staging the Games with nearby Akron.

Taxi drivers take issue with Gay Games placards

Cleveland (AP) – Some taxi drivers who work at the Cleveland airport say they won’t drive cabs with rooftop placards advertising the upcoming Gay Games.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has released a statement saying two of the three taxi companies operating there were informed by several drivers that they will no longer participate in the airport’s dedicated cab program.
