Democrats are widely viewed as having caved on their pledge to fight for young, undocumented immigrants to remain in the country, after agreeing to end a U.S. government shutdown shortly after supporting it.

Google gives grant to preserve oral history of Stonewall Inn

NEW YORK (AP) – The philanthropic wing of the internet search giant Google says it is donating $1 million to preserve an oral history of the 1969 Stonewall riots.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) made the announcement June 18 that Google.org, the company’s philanthropy branch, is donating the grant to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center to start the oral history project. Schumer says the purpose of the project is to spread the word and educate future generations about the Stonewall riots.

Schumer opposes Trump’s pick of anti-LGBTQ Green for Army secretary

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate’s top Democrat declared May 3 he’ll vote against President Donald Trump’s pick for Army secretary over what he said are disparaging comments the nominee has made about LGBT people, Latinos and Muslims.

Chuck Schumer of New York said Mark Green, a Republican state senator from Tennessee, is opposed to gay marriage and has sponsored legislation that would make it easier for businesses to discriminate against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
