Metro’s Celebrate 25 Gala raises $65,000 for LGBTQ youth, seniors and transgender services

St. Petersburg | Metro Wellness & Community Centers has announced that its Celebrate 25 Gala, held this year on Nov. 11, raised just over $65,000 after expenses for programs and services for LGBTQ youth and seniors.

The event was hosted by comedian Christine O’Leary, nominated by Curve Magazine to be one of the “50 Funniest Lesbians in America,” with additional entertainment provided by local favorites Jennifer Real and DJ Bill Kody. It generated record attendance for the organization, which holds a gala annually to raise funds and celebrate the community, with over 500 attendees gathering to commemorate Metro’s 25th year.

ST. PETERSBURG | Metro Wellness & Community Centers will commemorate its 25th year during their annual gala on Nov. 11, and the community it does so much to support is invited to help celebrate the organization’s landmark anniversary.

Community members can attend the organization’s Great Gatsby Gala, held at the appropriately-titled Gatsby’s, from 7:00-11:00 p.m. in Clearwater. For $50, attendees will enjoy an open bar, dinner, dancing and live entertainment, with collected funds used to support “life-changing LGBT programs for the youth, seniors, and transgender members of our community.”

Facebook has strict guidelines when it comes to photo content, but that doesn’t mean you can’t promote An Evening of Erotica through social networking. The annual celebration of all things sexy returns to the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts Feb. 17 and is presented by the genius minds of Spathose. The night features erotic imagery, fashion and art ranging from photographs to lingerie. Guests are encouraged to capture the evening digitally and post to Facebook using the hashtag #SPATHOSE. Whoever gets the most likes by Monday Feb. 23 wins a piece of Spathose wearable sculpture. Tickets to the event are $25 for MFA members and $25 for non-members at Fine-Arts.org/RSVP.

G Bar could see new ownership
We’ve heard through the grapevine that popular Ybor club G Bar could be under new ownership soon. What first grabbed our attention was a set of liquor reduction blowout nights at the club on Ybor’s 7th Avenue. Getting information has been difficult, but we’ve heard from reliable sources that Rick Kowalczyk, owner of the newly remodeled Southern Nights in Orlando, could be prospective buyer. There are also rumors of the Honey Pot’s impending sale, but we haven’t had any luck getting in touch with anyone to verify or deny that just yet.
