METRO’s Chris Rudisill bids Tampa Bay adieu as he catches the train to Fort Lauderdale

After more than five years as a visible face of the LGBT community, Chris Rudisill will be leaving METRO and the Tampa Bay area Dec. 4.

Rudisill, 39, ran St. Pete Pride for three seasons starting in 2010 before being recruited by METRO CEO Lorraine Langlois as the Director of LGBT Community Center Services in 2012, and since has helped build up Metro Health and Wellness from an HIV/AIDS clinic into an “all under one roof” LGBT community center that includes primary healthcare, a welcome center and programs developed to assist with transgender issues, PrEP and LGBT elderly concerns.

One story at a time: Tampa Bay’s second Trans Pride expands along with community awareness

In honor of Transgender Awareness Month, Metro Wellness is hosting the second annual Tampa Bay Trans Pride 2015 on Nov. 13-14.

The first trans pride event in Nov. 2014 sprouted from an idea between Tristan Byrnes, licensed mental health counselor, and Chris Rudisill, Metro Wellness director of LGBT community center services. Byrnes and Rudisill wanted to organize a reception honoring Dr. Kathleen Farrell’s retirement while recognizing Transgender Awareness Month. The event unexpectedly became Metro Wellness’ first Trans Pride.

Metro’s new medical director talks PrEP, primary care and trans health

Metro Health, Wellness and Community is expanding its umbrella of services by opening the doors on primary care and LGBT health services in its Tampa and St. Petersburg locations.

Metro Health hired Dr. David W. LyterM.D. as its new medical director in July, because it felt there were services specific to the LGBT community in Tampa and St. Petersburg  that the general medical community was ignoring.

Guest Column: A ‘Smart’ Ride for good

In 2010, I was still relatively new to Florida. My first year in St. Petersburg was spent getting immersed in the LGBT community, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and beginning to find joy in the immense cycling opportunities throughout our area.

In doing so, I heard other riders and new friends talk about this SMART Ride event—a two-day, 165-mile bike ride from Miami to Key West. Having never been to Key West before, my partner and I started to train for the 7th Annual SMART Ride, or Southern-Most AIDS Ride Twenty-ten.
