IMDb changes dead name policy for transgender industry professionals

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb), the largest online resource for film and television, has revised its policy on talent profiles of transgender industry professionals including their birth names.

The controversy began when IndieWire reported that two trans actors with major television credits had their birth names listed on their profiles. Despite lobbying from Hollywood management, talent agencies, and GLAAD for the removal of the names, IMDb refused citing anti-discrimination laws.

Chaz Bono meets cast backstage at ‘The Cher Show’ on Broadway

Chaz Bono paid a visit to “The Cher Show” on Broadway on Jan. 5 and met with members of the cast who portray his real-life parents.

After the show, Bono met with Stephanie J. Block, Teal Wicks and Micaela Diamond, who all play Cher at various points in her life; Jarrod Spector, who portrays Sonny Bono, and the rest of the show’s cast.

Making headlines: Transgender issues have made it into the national news

In the past year or so, transgender issues have made their way from obscure news websites and community groups to major headlines. While the exposure has been good for the transgender movement for equality, not all of the headlines have been positive.

Probably most notable of late was the appearance of Laverne Cox of Netflix’s hit, Orange is the New Black, appearing on Katie Couric’s talk show.
