Come Out With Pride to keep Orlando dancing with this year’s parade, festival

ORLANDO | Come Out With Pride (COWP) is gearing up for its most colorful day of the year — its 14th annual Pride festival and parade held on Oct. 13.

Aligning with National Coming Out Day and LGBTQ History Month, COWP is one of the largest Pride events in Florida with over 160,000 attendees last year. COWP President Jeff Prystajko says there will likely be even more this year.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ ‘Versace’ win big for LGBT TV at Emmys

The 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards honored the best in television on Monday night including a few wins for LGBT TV.

The biggest night in television kicked off with an opening dance number led by “Saturday Night Live” cast members Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson. The bit jokingly celebrated Hollywood finally finding a solution to its diversity problem. McKinnon and Thompson were later joined on stage by other TV stars such as “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” star Tituss Burgess and RuPaul.

Jussie Smollett, Tituss Burgess keep #EyesOnChechnya in MTV advocacy video

Jussie Smollett, Tituss Burgess and Carson Kressley, among others, have joined forces with MTV to bring awareness to the anti-gay persecution in the Russian republic of Chechnya.

“In Chechnya, gay and bisexual men have been hunted down, rounded up, and continue to be illegally detained in prison. Many have been tortured and at least three men have been murdered,” reads a post on MTV’s website. “In spite of these horrors, not enough people are aware of what’s happening or taking action.Together we can raise the volume on the public outcry, and let the world know that we have our #EyesOnChechnya.”

Miss’d America drag pageant finds new home

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – A drag spoof of the Miss America competition will be held this fall at Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

The Miss’d America pageant will mesh with a gay-friendly tourism campaign at the casino, as well as citywide efforts to embrace and attract lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender vacationers, The Press of Atlantic City reported.
