Classical singer Jackie Evancho talks about love of music, movies and her transgender sister

Singer Jackie Evancho may be just shy of her 19th birthday but she’s already had enough of a performance career to last a lifetime. A young woman with a soaring operatic range, Evancho began participating in talent competitions when she was still in the single digits.

Evancho’s big break and greatest exposure came when she placed second during season five of NBC’s hit reality competition show, “America’s Got Talent.” From there Evancho became a popular classical crossover artist, releasing EPs and full-length albums, including 2017’s “Two Hearts” and the upcoming “The Debut,” out in April 2019.

Paula Poundstone looks for happiness in her new book and on the road as her tour brings her to Florida

Paula Poundstone is what one would call an old-school standup comedian. She got her start at 19 doing open mic nights in Boston, then hopped on a bus and went city to city, examining the different comedy scenes in different regions of the country. Now after almost 40 years in the business, she is comedy royalty (she was named one of the top 100 comics of all time by Comedy Central), an accomplished writer (her new book, The Totally Unscientific Study of the Search for Human Happiness, comes out May 9) and extremely intelligent (she’s on NPR!).

Poundstone brings her witty, smart and hilarious standup to Florida with stops at the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater March 10 and the Plaza Live in Orlando March 11; but before hitting the Sunshine State, Poundstone took a few minutes to talk with us about comedy, happiness and why she has so many cats.

Mary Lambert brings her heart to Clearwater

Mary Lambert is wearing her heart on her sleeve, and she wants everyone to know it.

The 25 year-old singer-songwriter just released her debut full-length album for Capitol Records, entitled Heart On My Sleeve, which features two breakout singles—“Secrets” and “When You Sleep”—and her supporting tour has her coming to The Capitol Theater in Clearwater Saturday, Oct. 25. It’s a return trip to Pinellas County for the singer, who performed at St. Pete Pride’s benefit concert in June.
