The Congressional Black Caucus last week announced it has created an emergency Task Force on Black Youth Suicide and Mental Health that will address what it calls a growing problem of suicide and access to mental health care among black youth, including black LGBT youth.

The CBC officially launched the new task force at an April 30 news conference at the House Rayburn Office Building on Capitol Hill.

In first, transgender troops testify about military service on Capitol Hill

A hearing on Capitol Hill Feb. 27 became a veritable tale of two cities as transgender troops testified about their commitment to military service while Trump administration officials sought to explain why they would seek to deny them from enlisting in the armed forces (while at the same denying their proposed policy was a ban).

Each of the five transgender service members told the House Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee about their military records, which consisted in some cases of years of military service and deployments overseas.

Twitter permanently bans anti-LGBTQ conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, Infowars

NEW YORK (AP) | Twitter permanently banned right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his Infowars show for abusive behavior, a day after CEO Jack Dorsey testified before Congress about alleged bias against conservatives on the platform.

The company said Jones won’t be able to create new accounts on Twitter or take over any existing ones. In a tweet, it said it would continue to monitor reports about other accounts potentially associated with Jones or Infowars, and will “take action” if it finds any attempts to circumvent the ban.

Schumer: Dems will ‘do whatever we can’ to reverse trans rollback

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was bold Tuesday in declaring opposition to the Trump administration’s rollback of guidance prohibiting discrimination against transgender kids, but kept his cards close to his vest on his plan to address the reversal.

Schumer made the remarks during his weekly news conference on Capitol Hill in response to a question from the Washington Blade on when Senate Democrats intend to respond to President Trump’s revocation of the Obama-era guidance.

Salt Lake City woman charged with murder in partner’s death

sue-mary-hickmanSALT LAKE CITY (AP) – A 53-year-old woman has been charged with murder after authorities say she acknowledged shooting her partner earlier this month at the Salt Lake City home they shared.

The Salt Lake County Attorney’s Office charged Sue Mary Hickman Dec. 30 with one count of homicide.
