AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Though “bathroom bills” targeting transgender people fizzled in deep-red states across the U.S., the issue is still white hot in Texas, where the Legislature is heading into special session prepared to revive it and conservative groups are vowing revenge on Republican lawmakers who don’t approve it.

Powerful business entities, from Apple to the NFL, oppose such a bill as discriminatory, but insurgent candidates have promised to brand lawmakers who dare reject it, or try to remain neutral in the face of so much outcry, as soft on social issues dear to conservatives.

Imagine: President Trump has been impeached and removed from office after investigations reveal illegal collusion between his 2016 campaign and Russia, prompting Vice President Mike Pence to take the Oath of Office. Do you know how anti-LGBT your new president is?

Ongoing revelations about the Trump campaign’s connections to Russia and his firing of FBI Director James Comey as he was investigating those ties have led to some scattered calls for impeachment, including from LGBT rights supporters. But impeachment could lead to a potentially worse place if Pence becomes president and his administration is consistent with an anti-LGBT record that dwarfs Trump’s.

The documents were among thousands of emails hacked from the accounts of Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.

The ads use the slogan “Freedom to be, Tobacco-Free,” and are aimed at adults ages 18 to 24.
