America’s preeminent progressive rock band Kansas returns to Ruth Eckerd Hall on Friday, November 11 at 8pm celebrating the 40th Anniversary of their breakthrough album Leftoverture. To celebrate, for the first time in history, the band will be performing the album in its entirety. The tour will showcase two hours of classic KANSAS music including hit songs, deep cuts and new songs from their soon to be released album The Prelude Implicit.

In 1976, KANSAS released the album Leftoverture, which included the smash hit, and million-selling single Carry On Wayward Son, along with fan favorites such as The Wall, Miracles Out Of Nowhere and What’s On My Mind, Leftoverture became the band’s breakthrough album. The album peaked at £5 on Billboard’s album charts and reached sextuple-platinum status for more than six million copies sold.

“These definitely will not be your typical KANSAS concerts of the past few years,” commented original KANSAS guitarist Richard Williams. “This is incredibly exciting for the entire band, and hopefully our fans. It’s something we’ve never done before, play an album in its entirety, as part of a set. Leftoverture was our breakthrough and it’s special that we are getting to celebrate it 40 years later. We’ve never even played Questions of My Childhood live before. I can’t wait!”

Ruth Eckerd Hall on the Road presents The Psychedelic Furs at the Palladium in St. Petersburg on Thursday, October 20 at 8 pm. If you were to dissect the alternative rock dominating today’s music, you’ll find that much of it pays homage to The Psychedelic Furs. Led by vocalist and songwriter Richard Butler and his bass-wielding brother Tim, the Furs won over fans and critics alike by combining poetic lyrics, innovative rhythms and melodies driven by an aggressive, punk desperation. Through it all, the band scored major hits with Love My Way, Pretty In Pink, Heaven, The Ghost In You and Heartbreak Beat. In all, releasing seven studio albums and spawning several compilations, a boxed set and a live concert DVD. The band continues to tour around the world with a lineup that has remained the same for over 35 years.

Long-time YES fans, rejoice! Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, and Rick Wakeman unite/reunite to form Anderson, Rabin & Wakeman for a special appearance at Ruth Eckerd Hall after a hiatus of 25 year! The most successful progressive rock group of all time, YES was founded by Jon in 1968 and went on to sell millions of units with releases such as Fragile, Close to The Edge, Tales From Topographic Oceans, Going For The One and 90125. While Rick is associated with the ’70s “progressive era” of the band (which saw YES become a worldwide stadium headliner) and Trevor associated with the ’80s “pop era” of the band (which furthered the band’s popularity – including the band’s biggest chart success), Jon is the bridge between both factions (as he was a member of both eras). Don’t miss them performing your favorite YES hits, brand new music and more only at Ruth Eckerd Hall!

Legends of Rock

The Legends of Rock Tour hits the road for its inaugural tour this summer, which includes a stop at Ruth Eckerd Hall on Saturday, September 17! Starring Jefferson Starship, Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad, Rick Derringer and Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, the tour is set to bring classic hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s all to the same stage.

Jefferson Starship rose from the ashes of another legendary San Francisco band, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Jefferson Airplane. Founder Paul Kantner knew that combining powerful creative forces, personalities and talents could create something far greater than the sum of its parts. Today’s Jefferson Starship – featuring original member David Freiberg, longtime members Donny Baldwin (drums) and Chris Smith (keyboards and synth bass), Jude Gold on lead guitar and GRAMMY® nominee Cathy Richardson anchoring the female lead vocal spot made famous by the inimitable Grace Slick – remains dedicated to breathing new life into the living catalog of the Jeffersonian legacy, going to the edge, pushing the sonic boundaries and staying true to the original spirit of the music.

Shortly after co-founding the band in 1969, Grand Funk Railroad lead singer and guitarist Mark Farner took his American band to the heights of success. They would quickly release their debut album, On Time, in August of that year and four months later, follow it up with their sophomore effort titled, Grand Funk. In 1970, Closer to Home featuring Mark’s song, I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home) was released and the band went on to sell more albums that year than any other American band.

When guitar slinger Rick Derringer breaks into his legendary rock anthem, Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo, you’ll likely see many air guitars in the audience. Now more than four decades after its release, the hugely popular hit continues to be a staple on classic rock radio and has been featured in several movies over the years including the Richard Linklater cult classic, Dazed and Confused, and others including The Spirit of ‘76, Rush, Stag and What A Girl Wants.

The hits began for Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels with the release of their first hit single, Jenny Take a Ride! In 1966, they recorded and performed a medley featuring Little Richard’s Jenny Jenny and Chuck Willis’ classic R&B song, C.C. Rider, which quickly entered the Top 10 charts. Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels followed up their initial hit with two more in ’66 including a rendition of the Righteous Brothers’ Little Latin Lupe Lu and the song that would ultimately be their biggest hit, Devil With A Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly.

Alt-rock band Third Eye Blind broke out in 1997 with pop-style rock songs like “Semi-Charmed Life” and “How’s It Going To Be,” but the band did not play any of their number one hit songs when they headlined a charity concert for the Republican National Convention July 19.

The concert was hosted by the Recording Industry Association of America and held, by invite only, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
