Raleigh (AP) – Major corporations are taking a stand against a new North Carolina law that bans anti-discrimination measures based on sexual orientation and gender identity and requires transgender people to use public bathrooms that match their birth certificates.

American Airlines, which operates its second-largest hub in Charlotte; the biotech company Biogen, which manufactures pharmaceuticals in Research Triangle Park; and Dow Chemical, were among the corporations condemning the new law.

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has urged lawmakers to send a bill to his desk by the end of the week to clarify the intent of a new religious objections law that critics fear could allow discrimination against gays and lesbians.
