Austin, Texas — About 250 people gathered on the afternoon of March 23 at the Texas Capitol to rally in support of what they call “Biblical marriage” — a union between a man and a woman — at an event headlined by Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore.
Moore, a staunch gay marriage opponent, instructed Alabama’s state probate judges to refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay couples despite a federal ruling that Alabama’s same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma House has approved legislation that shifts the issuance of marriage licenses from the state to members of the clergy.
House members voted 67-24 for the measure March 10 and sent it to the Senate for consideration.
Honolulu (AP) – Hawaii’s attorney general issued a legal opinion saying state lawmakers can act to legalize gay marriage without amending the Hawaii Constitution.
Attorney General David Louie said the Legislature “unquestionably” has the constitutional authority to consider and enact a bill during a special session later this month.
