AUSTIN, Texas (AP) | Millions knew him as Jonathan Bower in the popular 1980s and 1990s TV series “Who’s the Boss,” in which he starred alongside Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano.

The Austin American-Statesman reports photographers snapped him on red carpets. Magazines like Tiger Beat featured him. He was even interviewed by Oprah.

Texas sick leave bill alarms LGBT advocates

AUSTIN, Texas — A proposed bill affecting paid sick leave in Texas is being criticized for its implications for LGBT workers, The Dallas Morning News reports.

Sen. Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) filed Senate Bill 15 to prohibit municipalities from requiring private employers to offer paid sick leave and other benefits to workers. But a tweak made to the bill a few weeks ago has some worried it could threaten city ordinances that prohibit employers from discriminating against workers based on sexual orientation or gender identity, The News reports.

4 men charged in beating of gay couple in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) | Police say they have charged four men with aggravated assault after a gay couple was beaten in Texas.

Frank Macias, his brother Miguel Macias, Quinn O’Connor and Kolby Monell were in jail Feb. 13 in Travis County. They each were charged Feb. 12 with two counts of aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, for the Jan. 19 attack in Austin. Their bonds were set at $150,000. Jail records list no attorneys for them.

In a little-noticed development, Amazon’s surprise announcement in September that it plans to open a second headquarters has prompted growing speculation on whether the corporate giant will consider a state or city’s laws on LGBT issues as a factor in choosing the location of the new headquarters.

Based on the size and scope of its current corporate headquarters in Seattle, observers familiar with the tech company say the new headquarters will likely result in a workforce of 50,000 and a $5 billion boost to the local economy of the city and state Amazon chooses.

Roy Moore headlines “Biblical marriage” Texas rally

Austin, Texas — About 250 people gathered on the afternoon of March 23 at the Texas Capitol to rally in support of what they call “Biblical marriage” — a union between a man and a woman — at an event headlined by Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore.

Moore, a staunch gay marriage opponent, instructed Alabama’s state probate judges to refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay couples despite a federal ruling that Alabama’s same-sex marriage ban is unconstitutional.

Texas court blocks future same-sex marriages after lesbians wed

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The Texas Supreme Court has issued an emergency order blocking gay couples from obtaining marriage licenses after a lesbian couple wed in Austin.

The Feb. 19 ruling doesn’t invalidate the marriage of the two women who were allowed to marry hours earlier based on a one-time court order issued for health reasons. One of the women has cancer.

Gay fathers offer support to others on website

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Two Austin men struggling with fatherhood as a gay couple launched a website and nonprofit designed to offer advice, assistance and support to other men in their situation.

Brian Stephens and Andy Miller launched The Handsome Father and its website, www.thehandsomefather.org , in April. Now, for its first Father’s Day celebration, the group is holding a brunch for gay fathers.
