Kevin Spacey’s statement of regret after being accused of trying to seduce former child actor Anthony Rapp has kicked up a backlash when the two-time Oscar winner then chose to come out of the closet, prompting many to question the timing and accusing the actor of trying to change the subject.

A gay man told D.C. police he was repeatedly hit in the face and head by objects thrown by four men while he was walking his dog near Logan Circle on Feb. 1 and one of the attackers shouted, “This is what a Trump America looks like, faggot!”

A police report, which lists the incident as an anti-gay hate crime, says Logan Circle resident Robert Richard Brice Kohler told police the incident began about 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 while he walked his dog in front of a large row house at 1334 Vermont Ave., N.W.

Former North Carolina inmate says he was harassed, beaten because he’s gay

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – A former North Carolina inmate is suing a sheriff and his staff after saying he was brutally assaulted by another inmate because he’s gay.

The Charlotte Observer reports Arthur Blake filed a complaint Jan. 3 against Mecklenburg County Sheriff Irwin Carmichael and his employees, saying he repeatedly warned deputies that he’d been threatened by a fellow inmate before being attacked in 2014.

Lesbian couple attacked at Six Flags in Massachusetts

AGAWAM, Mass. (AP) – Police say two western Massachusetts women attacked a lesbian couple from Rhode Island whom they saw kissing at Six Flags New England.

The Republican of Springfield reports that 29-year-old Damarielys Mukhtar and 27-year-old Nikia Butt were charged with assault and a civil rights violation with injury in connection with the July 29 incident at the amusement park in Agawam. Mukhtar also was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Marshall University Football Player Charged With Assaulting Gay Couple

A college football player has been dismissed from the team and charged by police after attacking a gay couple because he saw them kiss.

Steward Butler, a running back with Marshall University’s football team, is accused of assaulting Casey Williams, 20, and Zackery Johnson, 21, in Huntington, West Virginia after seeing the couple exchange a kiss while they walked back to their hotel room from a local club.

Jamaican woman brings attention to rapes targeting lesbians

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) – When Angeline Jackson and a friend were ambushed at gunpoint and sexually assaulted on a wooded trail outside the Jamaican capital, police initially seemed less concerned about the attack than the fact she is a lesbian.

“The first policewoman I spoke to told me I should leave this lifestyle and go back to church,” Jackson recalled of the 2009 attack, shaking her head in frustration.

Tyra Sanchez arrested for assault

Virginia Beach, Va. – It seems like RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 2 winner and former Orlando resident Tyra Sanchez is in trouble again.

Sanchez, whose real name is James Ross, was arrested Sept. 9 in Virginia for a misdemeanor assault. Virginia Beach court records say Sanchez was arrested 15 days after the offense.

Pittsburgh police punches woman in face during LGBT event

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh police officer has been put on desk duty after video surfaced showing him punching a woman at the city’s gay pride parade and festival.

Mayor Bill Peduto said June 16 the officer will remain on restricted duty for a month during an internal investigation.
