State Dept. urges Russia to investigate gay Chechen men’s arrests

A State Department spokesperson on Wednesday urged the Russian government to investigate the reported arrests of more than 100 gay men in Chechnya.

“We urge the Russian government to conduct an independent and credible investigation into the alleged killings and mass arrests and hold the perpetrators responsible,” the spokesperson told the Washington Blade in a statement.

Florida man making Pulse-like threats arrested by FBI

A man who posted messages on Facebook last week threatening to carry out a Pulse nightclub type shooting against LGBT people on Labor Day in the gay enclave of Wilton Manors, Fla., was arrested by the FBI in Orlando on federal charges of making threats to injure people.

Craig Allen Jungwirth, 50, who had been promoting a gay event in Wilton Manors and nearby Fort Lauderdale known as Beach Bear Weekend, was initially arrested on Saturday, Sept. 3, by the Florida Highway Patrol in Osceola County, Fla. near Orlando on an unrelated charge of driving with a suspended license, according to Orlando police.

No arrests following fight at Flamingo

A fight involving 12-15 people broke out at the Flamingo Resort shortly after midnight on Friday, Oct. 11, but there were no arrests made in the case, according to St. Petersburg Police.

According to Bill Proffitt with the media department of the St. Petersburg Police, none of those involved in the altercation chose to press charges after police arrived. He added that when officers arrived on the scene, most of the fighting had already ended.
