Actor Joshua Rush has come out as bisexual.

The 17-year-old actor is best known for his portrayal of Cyrus Goodman on the Disney Channel series “Andi Mack.” Cyrus is the first openly gay main character on the Disney Channel.

Bandwagon builds for LGBTQ diversity on children’s TV

NEW YORK (AP) | Wilson Cruz, a co-star in the new Hulu animated children’s series “The Bravest Knight,” describes the show’s dad couple this way: “We’re not explaining homosexuality, or same-gender sexuality. We’re talking about the love of a family.”

His words and those of his fellow Hulu father, T.R. Knight, speak loudly about the state of LGBTQ representation in TV fare for kids, a segment of media that has been broadening story lines over the last several years to include a range of non-binary characters.

‘Andi Mack’ introduces first gay romance on Disney Channel

“Andi Mack” concluded its three-season run with a series finale that included the first gay romance on Disney Channel.

The tween show already made history with its character Cyrus (Joshua Rush), who earlier in the show admitted to his friend Buffy (Sofia Wylie) that he had a crush on Andi’s boyfriend, Jonah (Asher Angel). Later, Cyrus became the first character on Disney Channel to say the words “I’m gay” when he came out to Jonah.

Disney Channel has canceled its groundbreaking coming-of-age tween series “Andi Mack” after three seasons.

The series was the first Disney Channel show to feature a coming out storyline on its channel. It also was the first show to have a character say the words “I’m gay” on the channel.

Disney Channel series “Andi Mack” has made history with the channel’s first character to come out as gay.

“Andi Mack” has already tackled the topic of teenage pregnancy when 13-year-old Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) discovers her older sister is actually her mother. Now, in the second season another groundbreaking storyline will be featured on the channel.
