PHOTOS: Halloween was scary, good fun at Parliament House

ORLANDO | Even with Halloween being on a Thursday this year, crowds packed into the Parliament House in Orlando Oct. 31 to show off their costumes, as well as participate in the club’s weekly Latin Night party and Bearoke in the Bear Den.

The main pool stage was the location for the night’s $3,000 grand prize costume contest. The final two consisted of Saturday night’s costume contest runner-up, Maleficent — with an impressive wingspan — and “Game of Thrones” villain White Walker riding a dragon who breathed actual fire.

Orlando native and out performer Michael James Scott to reprise role of Genie in ‘Aladdin’ at Dr. Phillips Center

ORLANDO | The hit Broadway musical “Disney’s Aladdin” is coming to the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Jan. 22-Feb. 9, 2020. It was announced Sept. 13 that Orlando native and out performer Michael James Scott will be performing as the Genie during the musical’s run in Central Florida.

Scott graduated from Dr. Phillips High School and has appeared in the Broadway productions of “The Book of Mormon,” “Something Rotten,” Hair,” “All Shook Up,” “The Pirate Queen,” “Elf,” “Mamma Mia” and “Tarzan,” as well as previously performed as the Genie in London’s West End and Australia, the latter of which won Scott a Helpmann Award—the Australian version of The Tony Award.

‘Aladdin,’ ‘Mean Girls,’ more featured in Straz Center’s 2019-2020 Broadway season

The Straz Center for the Performing Arts announced its nine-show, 2019-2020 Broadway season March 17.

Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” leads the season Oct. 8-13, 2019. It features songs from the original film and a “toe-tapping and ear-tickling new score.”

‘Aladdin,’ ‘Les Miserables,’ more coming to Dr. Phillips Center

ORLANDO| The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announced their upcoming FAIRWINDS Broadway series for the 2019/2020 season in a press release Feb. 15.

Audience members can discover a whole new world this season with the musical “Aladdin.”  The Disney original is making a comeback with fan favorite songs, as well as new music. The season will also feature the Tony award-winning “My Fair Lady” and “A Bronx Tale” starring Richard H. Blake, known for his role as Tommy Devito in the “Jersey Boys” musical.

Dr. Phillips’ full 2019/2020 season line-up will include “Escape to Margaritaville,” “The Play That Goes Wrong,” “Aladdin,” “Mean Girls,” “Miss Saigon,” “A Bronx Tale” and “My Fair Lady.” Kicking off the season will be Tony award-winning  “Les Miserables,” available as a season option. According to their website, “these eight wildly popular shows will bring the best of Broadway to Walt Disney Theater.” Detailed information can be found below.
