OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A bill that opponents say would allow religious-based adoption agencies to discriminate against same-sex couples, single people and non-Christians has cleared the Oklahoma Senate.

Texas adoption agencies could soon be allowed to ban LGBTQ couples

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Parents seeking to adopt children in Texas could soon be rejected by state-funded or private agencies with religious objections to them being LGBTQ, Jewish, Muslim, single, or interfaith couples, under a proposal in the Republican-controlled Legislature.

Five other states have passed similar laws protecting faith-based adoption organizations that refuse to place children with gay parents or other households on religious grounds – but Texas’ rule would extend to state-funded agencies. Only South Dakota’s is similarly sweepingly.

Alabama bill could allow refusal of gay couples by adoption agencies

Montgomery, Ala. (AP) – Alabama would allow adoption agencies – including those with state contracts – to refuse to place children with same-sex couples on religious grounds, under a bill introduced in the Alabama Legislature.

Republican Sen. Gerald Allen of Tuscaloosa introduced the bill last week specifying that groups could refuse to participate in adoptions and foster care placements that violate their religious beliefs. The bill would also prohibit the state from refusing to license, or contract with, the groups that refuse services to people on religious grounds.
