French high court allows adoption by lesbian couple

Paris (AP) — A French court has authorized four lesbian women to adopt children born to their wives abroad through artificial insemination.

While France has legalized gay marriage and adoption, only heterosexual couples are allowed to have medically assisted fertilization. Supporters of gay rights praised the ruling on April 16, which allows these children to have two legal parents.

Florida House committee advances anti-gay adoption bill

Tallahassee – The Florida House Judiciary Committee voted 11-4 in favor of the Conscience Protection for Private Child-Placing Agencies bill on April 2.

The Conscience Protection bill would allow private adoption agencies and family foster homes to deny placing a child with a family or couple, if they feel placing the child would conflict with the agency’s religious beliefs or moral code.

Couple in Alabama same-sex marriage case still not allowed to adopt

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The couple whose lawsuit overturned Alabama’s gay marriage ban is headed back to court after a probate judge again refused to grant their adoption petition.

Cari Searcy and Kim McKeand filed the new lawsuit Feb. 24 against Mobile County Probate Judge Don Davis. Searcy is seeking to be recognized as a legal parent to their 9-year-old son.

Lifting gay marriage ban allows lesbian couple to be parents

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The lifting of a gay marriage ban in Florida is giving a Palm Beach County infant the right to call both women in a lesbian couple her parents.

A Palm Beach County judge on Jan. 21 ruled that both Lisa Maxwell and Christine Stephens-Maxwell are the parents of 7-week-old Satori.
