There’s nothing clever to be said here beyond the resonating jokes about the president-elect and the Alec Baldwin impersonations on SNL that make us feel like we’re laughing while crying. BUT! BUT! BUT! Not giving up is part of life, and we can’t really give up on minority rights, women’s rights and LGBTQ rights, can we?

To that end, there are some fairly well publicized marches in the works for the Trump inaugural weekend. Below, after the jump, you can find ways to get involved. This info comes from Planned Parenthood, which stands to lose any federal funding if the incoming administration has its way. There are events in most of our readership areas, as well, of course, in Washington, D.C. Know what you can do, where you should be and how you should act in the face of adversity. This isn’t just a march for women, it’s a march for all of us. Hold tight. We’ll get through this.

NEW YORK (AP) – For the combatants in America’s long-running culture wars, the triumph of Donald Trump and congressional Republicans was stunning – sparking elation on one side, deep dismay on the other.

Advocates of LGBT rights and abortion rights now fear setbacks instead of further gains. But the outcome emboldened the anti-abortion movement and breathed new life into the religious right’s campaign for broad exemptions from same-sex marriage and other laws.

Congressman Alan Grayson is making some amazing noise lately

Grayson protestors

As Planned Parenthood undergoes its public scrutiny – you might recall that last month, the organization was given the ACORN treatment by some very clever (not clever) video editors who wanted to frame Planned Parenthood in the GRAND SCHEME OF FETAL SALES THAT FUNDS THE UNDERGROUND PIPELINE OF LIBERAL INJUSTICE – Congressman with “guts” Alan Grayson, D-Orlando/Kissimmee/redistrictingmadness, is making it clear that he still stands with PP. Only three percent of Planned Parenthood’s revenues come from abortions, so let’s just quit it with this hateful rhetoric. Have you stood outside of a clinic before? There are many insane people there screaming many terrible things at women and men who are approaching the toughest decisions of their lives. Sorry, but it’s true. Try to have a conversation with one of them. We dare you.

Regardless, today Grayson was the subject of a weak protest (yawn) that centered around selling your baby’s innards, and, as Grayson is wont to do, he came out swinging with some reasonable rhetoric of the somewhat controversial sort.

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Wisconsin’s attorney general compared gay marriage to abortion on July 23 in arguing that there was no fundamental right to it and state laws defining marriage as between one man and one woman were reasonable.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen made his arguments in a brief filed with the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. Van Hollen is appealing a federal judge’s June decision declaring Wisconsin’s ban on gay marriage unconstitutional. The case has been combined with a similar one from Indiana.

The rain of ridiculous ravings from America’s political right continued unabated as spring took hold. Let’s look at a few examples.

Last week, Chelsea Clinton announced that she and hubby Marc Mezvinsky are expecting a child. Conspiracy mongers in the right-wing media went crazy. Steve Malzberg of Newsmax suggested, based on a thick file of nothing, that the pregnancy was deliberately timed to help Grandma Hillary’s expected presidential campaign. Oh, sorry, he did have one bit of evidence: Chelsea had mentioned in an interview that her mom was constantly asking about grandchildren.

Pope Francis: church “obsessed with” gays, abortion – balance needed

Vatican City (AP) – Pope Francis is warning that the Catholic Church’s moral edifice might “fall like a house of cards” if it doesn’t balance its divisive rules about abortion, gays and contraception with the greater need to make the church a merciful, more welcoming place for all.

Six months into his papacy, Francis set out his vision for the church and his priorities as pope in a remarkably candid and lengthy interview with La Civilta Cattolica, the Italian Jesuit magazine. It was published simultaneously in other Jesuit journals, including America magazine in the U.S.
