After horror struck Orlando on the morning of June 12, 2016 it took monumental effort for a grief-stricken community -for people- to come together and address the needs of everyone affected, specially of those directly impacted. Long-established leaders as well as emerging ones found themselves at the forefront of a massive task: to build up this once colorful and joyful community. A haven for LGBTQ+ people had been stolen and the LGBTQ+ Latinx community suffered a devastating loss. Layers upon layers of challenges, from language barriers to immigration status, came to surface. To take care of all those involved was not and it still isn’t an easy mission. However, in the strength and resiliency that characterizes a community with a long record of fighting oppression and hatred, a united front was there to pick up the pieces and guide the process to becoming whole again. Join us for a special Diálogo session with Representative Carlos Guillermo SmithTerry DeCarloRoxy Santiago and Christopher J. Cuevas as they share the paths they’ve taken to respond to tragedy, to honor those lost and to continue fighting for the community

NEW YORK (AP) – Hillary Clinton has a lot of plans for 2017, including some reflections on her stunning loss last fall to Donald Trump.

The former secretary of state, senator and first lady is working on a book of personal essays that will come out this fall, Simon & Schuster told The Associated Press Feb. 1. The book, still untitled, is structured around hundreds of favorite quotations that have inspired her. The publisher said Clinton will use the quotes to “tell stories from her life, up to and including her experiences in the 2016 presidential campaign” and into her thoughts on the future.

To the shock of political observers and LGBT rights supporters who expected his defeat, Donald Trump claimed a surprise victory Tuesday night against Hillary Clinton in his bid for the White House.

The potential for a Trump victory became clear after he pulled off wins in the battleground states of North Carolina, New Hampshire, Ohio and Florida. Surprise victories in the traditional “blue” states Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, as well as apparent wins in Michigan and Arizona not yet called, cemented his victory. As of late Tuesday, Trump was estimated to have won 49 percent of the popular vote compared to the 47 percent won by Clinton.

Following the highly-anticipated release of her twentieth album, Dig In Deep (Redwing Records), Bonnie Raitt returns to Ruth Eckerd Hall after her completely sold-out performance in 2013! Joining Raitt on the road is her longtime touring band, James “Hutch” Hutchinson (bass), Ricky Fataar (drums) and George Marinelli (guitar) along with Mike Finnigan (keyboards).

Throughout her spring 2016 tour, Raitt’s performances have garnered praise, with Billboard complimenting her “magnificent form: confident, engaging and sexy, while singing and playing her bottleneck slide guitar with searing soulfulness” at one of two sold-out shows at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.

Continuing a long-standing tradition in conjunction with the Guacamole Fund, Bonnie will donate one dollar from every ticket purchased to grassroots local, regional, and national organizations whose work focuses on safe and sustainable energy, social justice and human rights, environmental protection, and blues/music education.
