That Little ol’ Band from Texas” is at it again. More than 46 years after their formation in the Houston area, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees ZZ Top are hitting the road between mid-March and early May of next year. The Hell Raisers Tour will bring the trio to Ruth Eckerd Hall on Friday, April 29 at 8 pm. This will be their first show since their sold-out concert in 2013.

St. Petersburg – The Sunshine City made history in 2013 when its residents elected two more openly gay candidates to sit on its City Council. Darden Rice and Amy Foster handily won their campaigns in November in districts 4 and 8, respectively, and join sitting district 5 councilmember Steve Kornell who won his campaign back in 2009 behind the dais.

Of course, there are five other members of the St. Petersburg City Council, and those five straight elected officials are allies to the LGBT community. But having three, openly gay, seated officials is monumental for the city, and for Florida.

Transgender Day of Remembrance 2013 Events Round-Up

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was begun by transgender graphic designer and advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was brutally stabbed in her Massachusetts apartment in 1998. No one has ever been arrested for the crime. An annual candlelight vigil commemorates the death of Hest and all transgender people lost to violence.

Sawmill Halloween 2013

With perfect weather, Sawmill Campground was packed for their pre-Halloween “Cowboy CarnEvil” the weekend of Oct. 25-27.

Friday afternoon was like a military exercise, with campers setting up sites, campfires and elaborate decorations. Saturday was an all day party starting at the clothing optional pool, followed by a Halloween Parade, Diva Halloween Show, Costume Contest and Haunted Maze Foam Party.

It’s all a masquerade for Headdress Ball 2013

Knight Pride 2013 at UCF

Orlando – Nearly 100 University of Central Florida (UCF) students gathered near the Reflecting Pond on campus for UCF’s first-ever Pride event.

Students manning booths representing various activist groups mingled with attendees while a DJ spun dance hits and other students danced while clad in rainbow flags and painted colorful pro-LGBT signs.
