LGBT activists and media are buzzing about some questionable actions that took place over this past weekend, which was also the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall raid.

Police raided the Rainbow Lounge in Fort Worth, Texas 40 years to the day after the raid on the Stonewall Inn. Seven people were arrested and one man is still in the hospital with a brain injury that happened during the raid. Law enforcement motivations are still unclear.

A number of newspapers and web sites offer coverage and first hand accounts:

The Dallas Voice Instant Tea blog has covered the situation steadily
Dallas Observer's blog has some reactions

Feministing has another witness report
Something Awful has a thread discussing/following the situation
The Star Telegram has coverage of reaqction protests

On a more local note, WFLA out of Tampa Bay opted to air an anti-gay documentary on St. Pete Pride weekend. Silencing the Christians is an hour long propoganda piece that claims to "reveal the truth about the homosexual agenda" by making offensive and inaccurate claims about LGBTs, discussing conversion therapy and describing gay people as dangerous.

According to the Equality Florida blog:

"To add insult to injury, they've chosen to air this hateful piece on the same day as St. Pete Pride, the largest pride celebration in Florida. So, while tens of thousands are celebrating diversity and inclusion, WFLA will be broadcasting homophobia. It is an outrageous attack on our families."

Silencing the Chrisians, and WFLA's web site.

Update! Lots of complaints to WFLA.

Ignorence is met with violence. The hopes that I had to see equality for the LGBT family of the United States are beginning to wain. Until politicians feel the financial pain of us holding onto our contributions nothing will change.

Always interested in what the opposition has to say and I was able to keep my dinner down while soaking it in.
Its the same rhetoric by the same group that are trying convince uneducated people that intelligent design is science.
The "family" concept was interesting as the advent of the nuclear family (mom, dad, kids), was a economic necessity when human populations shifted from horticulture and family wealth to large agricultural societies with city/state rulers. Prior to this cultural shift, polygyny was thoroughly the norm and supported by the numerous religions before christianity destroyed their cultures.
Of course these people who produced this bigoted film will never admit an underlying hatred, and I perceived hatred in this message, and so lesiglated GLBT protection must continue to expand.
