Judge who rejected gay adoption ban demoted
A Miami-Dade circuit judge who ruled that Florida’s gay adoption ban is unconstitutional was removed from her post as the top administrative judge over the county’s juvenile courts. Judge Cindy Lederman was demoted from her position by new Chief Judge Joel H. Brown, who said he wants a fresh perspective for the bench.
In her 15 years in that position, Lederman created and oversaw a number of programs and made headlines in 2002 when she scolded state officials over the disappearance of 5-year-old foster child Rilya Wilson.
In November 2008, Lederman ruled that Florida’s gay adoption ban is unconstitutional. That case is now on appeal.
