ST. PETERSBURG | Food, drink and art enthusiasts gathered March 2 at the historic Coliseum for St Pete Pride’s annual Taste of Pride.

Celebrants were treated to sweet and savory samplings from nearly 20 of Tampa Bay’s favorite restaurants, breweries, catering companies. Taste participants included Dr. BBQ, Flamingo Resort, Iberian Rooster, Old Key West Bar & Grill, Orange Blossom Catering, Punky’s Bar & Grill and The Queenshead and more.

Luke Blankenship started college wanting to work in LGBTQ advocacy, and shortly after found himself running the largest Pride organization in the state of Florida: St Pete Pride.

Luke was named executive director (ED) in May, making him the youngest ED of a Pride organization in the country. He joined St Pete Pride five years ago as a general volunteer and since then worked as logistics coordinator, parade director, development director and now ED. He oversees the day-to-day operations in collaboration with the board of directors and oversees sponsorships, financial strategy, event planning, magazine production, the social media presence and maintains local government and city relations. Luke is constantly working towards becoming a better person and ED. He may be young but he is continuing to educate himself by attending leadership seminars and is currently in the process of becoming a certified nonprofit ED.

St Pete Pride announces new leadership

Following its successful 16th year, St Pete Pride announced Nov. 19 that the organization’s board president, vice president and secretary would transition and that its treasurer had been re-elected.

“St Pete Pride voted in new leadership, including three newly-elected officers from various backgrounds,” the organization shared, highlighting Chrys Bundy-Brennan’s election as president. Bundy-Brennan follows Scion Crowder’s four-year term which oversaw St Pete Pride’s largest period of growth.

ST. PETERSBURG | St. Pete Pride celebrated its 16th parade in style  June 23 along downtown St. Petersburg’s waterfront.

The party officially began at 2 p.m. with fan-favorite entertainers Kori Stevens and Daphne Ferraro kicking off festivities in both North and South Straub Park, readying Pride-goers for the evening parade which began at 7 p.m. with the second annual TransPride March. Hot 101.5’s Miguel & Holly hosted the evening as friends, families and floats invaded Bayshore Dr. en masse.

St Pete Pride Street Festival

The St Pete Pride Festival will be held Sunday, June 26,2016 in St Pete beginning at 11am and ending at 6pm.

Expected to draw more than 50,000 of our friends, the St Pete Pride Street Festival returns to Central Avenue in the Grand Central District promising to be larger, livelier and bolder than ever! The St Pete Pride Street Festival will again be the largest community event of the season as festival goers come together to make history while enjoying a day of live performances and entertainment, community booths, art and fantastic food in paradise.

After last year’s overwhelming demand, the Festival length has been extended by an entire city block, and the St Pete Pride Street Festival will be more diverse and shop-stopping than ever. Over 350 exhibitors will line both sides of Central Avenue for six city blocks in a rainbow celebration of food and beverage vendors, artists, small businesses, corporations, professional sports teams, community outreach groups, non-profit organizations and Pride themed merchandisers.

The LGBT Pride Parade will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 in St Pete. The Saturday night Block Party begins at 5pm, with the Parade kicking off at Sunset. To purchase Glamstand tickets, click here.

The LGBT Pride Parade, held within the Historic Kenwood Neighborhood and Grand Central District, features more than 150 organizations and businesses and over 4,500 marchers supporting and celebrating the Tampa Bay LGBT community. The Parade draws more than 200,000 people in total, making it the large LGBT Pride Parade in Florida and largest overall in St Petersburg. The Saturday Block Party begins at 5:00 p.m., held between 22nd Street and 27th Street along Central Avenue, featuring DJs, food and beverages. The Parade will roll off at Sunset.

St. Pete Pride seeks 2019 grand marshal nominations

St Pete Pride is now accepting grand marshal nominations for the organization’s 17th annual celebration, currently scheduled for June 21-23.

“In 2014 we introduced Community Grand Marshals, allowing the community to vote on who they felt should be the St Pete Pride Grand Marshals,” the organization’s website reads.

“St Pete Pride is now accepting nominations for the 2019 Community Grand Marshals,” it continues. “Tell us your story about your local hero, activist or hidden gem. Let us know who we should recognize with the honor of St Pete Pride Grand Marshal.”

Come OUT St. Pete returns with inaugural parade in second Pride-filled year

ST. PETERSBURG | Come OUT St. Pete (COSP) will return for its second outing with an inaugural parade and five days of events Oct. 4-11.

The organization’s mission is to inspire those in the LGBTQ community to live genuinely, raise awareness of LGBTQ issues and encourage public support from community allies. It began last year as a committee of the Grand Central District Association but has since applied for its own 501(c)(3) designation.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay sees increase in volunteers from St. Pete Pride

The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay (BBBSTB) have announced that last month’s St. Pete Pride saw over 200 men and women sign up to volunteer to be a “Big” in the nonprofit’s mentorship program.

The recruitment drive this year follows the organization’s launch of a nationwide initiative focusing on LGBTQ inclusion for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which at over 100 years old remains the nation’s largest volunteer-supported mentoring network. The nonprofit exists to make meaningful matches between adults and at-risk youth.
