2019 Orlando Fringe Review: ‘Daphne and Me: A Boy Meets Girl Story’

Real, raw, passionate and—thanks to the Rainbow Venue—up close and personal.

BeeJay Clinton’s autobiographical, one-person show “Daphne and Me: A Boy Meets Girl Story” is all of that and more. A brutally honest look into the psyche of a man who is as unsure of himself as BeeJay as he is sure of himself as Daphne, his drag persona.

Clinton’s intimate recount of his youth in rural Missouri, idolizing his mother, attempting to fit in, date and cope are further enhanced by the occasional musical interludes performed as Daphne.

Uninhibitedly putting himself out there in his first solo Fringe show, Clinton’s “Daphne and Me” is a sometimes humorous deep study of himself  that leaves the audience questioning who is it that they portray to the outside world.

“Daphne and Me” plays in the Rainbow Venue at the LGBT+ Center Orlando through May 26. For more information visit OrlandoFringe.org.
