“Love, Simon” is headed to the small screen.
Disney+, the company’s new streaming platform, has picked up a straight-to-series order of Greg Berlanti’s 2018 coming-of-age film “Love, Simon,” Deadline reports.
“Love, Simon” screenwriters Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker are on board to write the show. Berger and Aptaker are also the executive producers/co-showrunners of the hit NBC drama “This is Us.” Berlanti is not attached to the project due to his exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Television. The show will also use a different cast from the film.
The film is based on the book “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda” by Becky Albertalli. It follows 17-year-old Simon (Nick Robinson), a closeted teenager struggling to hide his sexual orientation from his family and friends while falling for an anonymous stranger online.
“Love, Simon” was the first major studio film to feature a lead gay romance.
Disney+ launches on Nov. 12.
