Watch: Netflix releases trailer for ‘Tales of the City’ reboot

Netflix dropped the first trailer for its sequel series to Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of the City” which brings Mary Ann Singleton (Laura Linney) back to 28 Barnaby Lane in San Francisco where a new cast of queer characters now reside.

In the trailer, Mary Anne is reunited with her adult daughter Shawna (Ellen Page) and ex-husband Brian (Paul Gross) who she left behind. It’s hinted that Shawna will develop a romance with Zosia Mamet (“Girls”). Murray Bartlett from HBO’s “Looking” also appears in the series. Other memorable faces to appear in the show will be Bob the Drag Queen, Molly Ringwald and Daniela Vega (“A Fantastic Woman”).

Old favorites from the original 1993 series include Olympia Dukakis who is back as Anna Madrigal, Mary Anne’s old landlady, and Barbara Garrick returns as lesbian socialite DeDe Halcyon Day.

“Orange is the New Black” writer Lauren Morelli is the reboot’s showrunner. Morelli and executive producer Alan Poul made sure to make the series as authentically LGBTQ as possible which included having an all-LGBTQ writers’ room.

“Tales of the City” starts streaming on Netflix on June 7.
