Parliament House takes on a cult classic with ‘ShowGirls in Drag’

ORLANDO | “ShowGirls in Drag”—based on the 1995 cult film, “Showgirls”—turns the iconic “girl moves to the big city to make it big” movie on its head in a dragtastic shocking parody at the Parliament House’s Footlight Theatre April 19-21. The show stars drag sensations Cara Cavalli, MRMS Adrien and Tora Himan.

“The film was made to be a drag parody” says Himan, who plays the show’s narrator. “It’s trash, glamour, diamonds, glitter and a whole lotta boobs! I mean, that’s a normal night at any gay bar. This show is one of my favorite productions ever, seriously.”

“ShowGirls in Drag” was written, directed and produced by Emmy-nominated producer Beth Wheatley and Emmy-nominated actor Stephen Guarino, and highlights the best and worst moments from the film.

This isn’t the first time Cavalli, Adrien and Himan shared the stage for a production of “ShowGirls in Drag.”

“We had a blast doing this show for the first time a few years ago,” Adrien says, “and now that we’ve grown so much as entertainers and friends, I’m sure this revival of ‘Showgirls’ is going to be ten times better.”

Both Adrien and Himan describe the show as ridiculous, trashy and a blast for the audience. “This show will make you question how stupid the original movie was in the best worst way,” Himan says.

“ShowGirls in Drag” hits the Parliament House’s Footlight Theatre stage April 19-21.Tickets are $20 for general admission and $30 for VIP, which includes a meet and greet, signed cast poster and seating in the first two rows. Tickets can be purchased by going to Parliament House’s Facebook page and searching events.
