Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld dies at 85

Karl Lagerfeld, creative designer of Chanel and Fendi for over twenty years, died early in the morning on Feb. 19 after weeks of battling an unspecified illness.

His death was announced from the designer’s personal Instagram account.

The German-born designer was often credited with revitalizing the Chanel brand after his start in 1983.

Many prominent members of the fashion industry took to social media to pay tribute to Lagerfeld, including Italian designer Donatella Versace.
