Police: Man stole LGBT flags from church

SAYVILLE, N.Y. (AP) | Police in Long Island say a 21-year-old man stole a number of LGBT pride flags from a local church.

Suffolk County Police say Ronald Tyler Witt, of Sayville, faces hate crime charges and was expected in court Wednesday. Police say Witt first stole a flag from the front of Sayville Congregational United Church of Christ on July 29.

Authorities say Witt returned several times in the past several weeks to steal flags whenever the church replaced the ones he took. He faces six counts of petty larceny as hate crimes.

Witt’s attorney information wasn’t immediately available.
