Watermark’s 5 Questions for a Fringe Regular

Orlando Fringe is in full swing and from what we have seen so far this is one of the best year of shows we have ever seen.

But any Fringe veteran will tell you that the shows are only part of the experience. You have the food, the drinks, the parties and of course chilling on the Fringe lawn and making some new friends.

In between reviewing shows, Watermark is out and about on the Fringe lawn chatting with Fringe performers, patrons and volunteers and getting to know their Fringe habits a little better.

We asked Fringe regulars these five questions:

1. What show are you most excited to see (other than your own)?

2. What is your favorite Fringe snack?

3. What is your all-time favorite Fringe show ever?

4. What’s the most shows you have seen in a 24-hour period?

5. What’s the weirdest thing you have seen a Fringe performer do to promote their show?

Check out the answers below and keep checking back as we add more Fringe regulars to the list. Happy Fringe!

Joe Saunders

1. “Gorgeous,” To Be Happy” and “El Wiz”

2. Cheese Curds

3. “Once I Laughed” from Fringe 2016

4. 3 shows

5. Walk around (fairly) naked

Madame PeeVira, The Fringy Mime Queen

1. “James & Jamesy in the Dark”

2. Wood-fired pizza

3. “ThanksKilling: The Musical”

4. 4 shows

5. Not sure, people usually just pass out fliers

Luke Jackson, performs the music for “S#!T I’m in Love With You Again”

1. “Eddie Poe”

2. A small bag of Ruffles from the vending machine, it’s only 75 cents!

3. Anything by TJ Dawe

4. Probably six shows

5. Nothing stands out

Scott Penyak and David Dorman

1. “My Pal Bette”

2. cheese curds

3. “When Pigs Fly”

4. 3 shows

5. Rob Ward walking around dressed as Pepe

George Wallace

1. “FrogPig”

2. Vodka

3. “The Vail”

4. 9 shows

5. Flashed me a boob

Aaron Malkin (L, pictured with Alastair Knowles) from “James & Jamesy In The Dark” and “Thunderfoot” (working 2 shows at the same festival consumes a lot of time so we weren’t able to catch Aaron on the lawn but he supplied us with this awesome behind the scenes photo).

1. I am most excited to see Stewart Huff’s show [“Critical Thinkin’]. I was delightfully surprised with how much heart he threaded through his stand-up show last year. I’m looking forward to this year’s offering.

2. Jerry’s Ice Cream! (That ice cream truck on the lawn.) Jerry provides great conversation and… ice cream!

3. Last year at the Edinburgh Fringe, I saw “Different Party” twice, starring Trygve Wakenshaw and Barnie Duncan. It was the best absurd physical comedy I’ve ever seen. So wonderfully fun.

4. In my first or second year touring Fringes, I probably saw 10 shows in a day. I’ve slowed down as that amount of watching can pull energy from my own performances.

5. I’ve seen performers put their show posters over others’ show posters. It strikes me as weird because it says, “Hey! I don’t care about this other artist!” which to me is destructive promotion, and therefore a weird choice.
