Gus Kenworthy has broken his thumb while practicing to compete in the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Kenworthy announced the bad news on Twitter but says he will still be able to compete. He also couldn’t help but take a jab at Vice President Mike Pence.

“Broke my thumb yesterday in practice. It won’t stop me from competing (obvi) but it does prevent me from shaking Pence’s hand so… Silver linings! Will be giving my teammates (and literally everyone else) an enthusiastic thumbs up!’ of encouragement the rest of the trip,” Kenworthy tweeted.

Kenworthy, who shares the honor of being an openly gay athlete for Team USA with figure skater Adam Rippon, has been vocal about his distaste for Pence. He posted a photo of himself with Rippon captioned, “Eat your heart out, Pence.”

In an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Kenworthy also noted he found Pence to be a “strange choice” to lead Team USA in the opening ceremony.

“To have somebody leading the delegation that [has] directly attacked the LGBTQ community just seems like a bad fit,” Kenworthy said. “I feel like the Olympics is all about inclusion and people coming together, and it seems like it’s not really doing that.”

Kenworthy will compete in the men’s slopestyle on Saturday.
