Bond denied for accused in transgender woman’s murder

Pascagoula, Miss. (AP) – The mother of a transgender woman killed at a Mississippi hotel has learned the wounds her daughter suffered included “deep” stab wounds to her face.

Vickie Whigham tells The Sun Herald that the funeral home told her Dee Whigham’s wounds were severe when she went there on July 27 to try to make final arrangements. Vickie Whigham says it would be a closed casket funeral.

Police say 25-year-old Dee Whigham was robbed and brutally stabbed to death July 24 night during an attack in a room at a Best Western hotel.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies say 20-year-old Dwanya Hickerson, of New Orleans, is being held on a capital murder charge.

Judge T. Larry Wilson ordered Hickerson to remain jailed without bond. He denied Hickerson’s court-appointed attorney’s request to consider bond.
