Terry DeCarlo will be staying on as the executive director for the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida indefinitely, The Center’s Board of Directors announced in a press release July 8.

DeCarlo previously announced his resignation from The Center May 27 after accepting a new position as the regional director for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation in South Florida.

DeCarlo, whose last day with The Center was to be June 24, delayed his departure after the Pulse tragedy June 12. In the wake of the attack, The Center became a focal point for organizing and fundraising for the victims and their families.

“We are thrilled that Terry has agreed to continue as the Executive Director of The Center” said Tim Vargas, Board President, in a statement. “As we continue to assist victims and families in large numbers, we all collectively determined that Terry was a critical leader to retain for the organization. Under Terry’s leadership, The Center has expanded greatly, and we expect many more successful years under his continued leadership.”

DeCarlo came to Orlando in 2014 as the new executive director from South Florida, where he was Director of Marketing, Public Relations and Events at Broward House for eight years.

“I am elated to be staying with The Center,” DeCarlo said. “No one could have predicted the tragedy that happened in Orlando on June 12, and it was incredible to see The Center and other organizations come together as one to work towards a common goal, helping the victims and families of this senseless tragedy. I am truly passionate about what I do and was very torn about leaving Orlando after this event. Know that The Center remains with boots on the ground and at the forefront of the recovery and healing in Orlando, and I am committed to seeing this continue and being with The Center for a long, long time.”
