Highland Park, N.J. (AP) – Two New Jersey school districts have approved policies dealing with transgender students.
Beginning May 24, Highland Park students can use locker rooms and participate in student activities – including sports – based on their gender identity.
Highland Park Board officials say the measure had been in the works before North Carolina passed a law that directs transgender people to use public bathrooms that align with the sex corresponding to their birth certificate.
The Record reports the Lyndhurst Board of Education voted on May 23 to keep its transgender policy, which states a parent or the adult student must confirm the student is “gender non-conforming.”
