Team Watermark: Meet our Intern!

Like a teaching hospital, Watermark is a teaching publication, and we consider it a priority to hire student interns in the hopes to teach them not only about journalism, but about the LGBT community which we serve.

Our current intern is Ciara Varone, 21, a senior journalism student with a minor in cinema studies. Here’s a little more about Ciara:

Q: What made you choose Watermark?
A: I had heard great things about Watermark from previous interns who had their first internship here. It seemed like a fun paper, but I also think its subject matter is important.
Q: What do you think will be the most exciting thing about working at Watermark?
A: I’m really looking forward to learning more about the LGBT community and seeing what issues will gain national attention now that same-sex marriage has been legalized. Also, working in an office with a great group of people and a baby, though I am most excited about Seamus the dog.
Q: Who’s your favorite LGBT personality?
A: Tim Gunn, because though I’ve never met him, I’m pretty sure he’s the nicest person on the planet.
Q: What type of cookie would you be?
A: I would be an animal cracker, because I would be cute enough that people would think twice before eating me.
