This Veteran’s Day, Watermark would like to take a moment to recognize the service of two of our staff members, Sales Director Mark Cady and Tampa Bay Bureau Chief Jeremy Williams.
Both of them are openly gay men who served their country from in the closet.
Mark enlisted in the Navy when he was just 17 years old. He was stationed at the US Naval Hospital, Okinawa, Japan from 1982-1986 and was awarded a citation from the Secretary of the Navy for exemplary service and commitment to the customs and traditions of the US Navy. Mark was also with a Fleet Hospital and SeaBee Battalion until his honorable discharge in 1994. He is a third generation Sailor. Mark is also the founder of Out and Proud Veterans of America.
Jeremy was 21 years old when he enlisted in the Air Force during February of 2001, as a way to travel and escape the small Georgia town where he lived. He trained in Texas before being stationed in Aviano, a small town in northern Italy. He worked peacefully until September 11, 2001, when the base was put on lockdown and they began 12-hour shifts. At the end of this tour, Jeremy was sent back to the U.S. His next assignment was South Korea in March 2006, where he spent his final year as an airman at Kunsan Air Force Base.
Veterans Day, observed each year on November 11, United States military veterans.
Watermark thanks Mark and Jeremy, and all U.S. veterans, for their service.
