Don’t mess with “God’s Authority!”: Kentucky clerk defies U.S. Supreme Court ruling, is apparently a glutton for punishment
Rowan County Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis speaks to a gathering of supporters during a rally on the steps of the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort Ky., Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015. Davis spoke at the rally organized by The Family Foundation of Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. The crowd of a few thousand included churchgoers from around the state. Davis has been sued by The American Civil Liberties Union for denying marriage licenses to gay couples. She says her Christian faith prohibits her from signing licenses for same-sex couples. If you’ve ever watched a stubborn pet dig its paws into the dirt and refuse to move forward, then you might want to check your pet’s tag and see whether it reads Kim Davis. The apparent pet to the religious-right backlash to marriage equality and the groups that fuel this ridiculous fire, Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, is clinging to God’s love and his “authority” by continuing to refuse the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court laughed Davis off with a one-sentence denial of her appeal on the issue, so there was speculation that she would cave. Well, according to our friends at LGBTQ Nation, Davis did just the opposite, hiding in her office behind stylish (ha) blinds at first, and then coming out swinging with the same rhetoric that has captivated audiences nationwide. This one’s really got something! The website reports:

On Tuesday morning, Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis’ office denied the licenses to at least two couples. At first, Davis was in her office with the door closed and blinds drawn. But she emerged a few minutes later, telling the couples and the activists gathered there that her office is continuing to deny the licenses “under God’s authority.”

Hillary Thornton with WKYT took video of Davis’ confrontations with couples. Check it out:
