Suspect charged with attempted murder after subway shove

NEW YORK (AP) – A man accused of pushing a transgender woman onto the New York City subway tracks has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and attempted assault.

Thirty-two-year-old Rolan Reid is being held without bail after a brief court appearance June 16. Authorities say the 28-year-old woman was pushed on June 1 as she stood on the southbound platform at the Bleecker Street station in Greenwich Village.

Police say a man approached her and said, “What are you looking at?” They say he then pushed her onto the tracks.

According to court papers, Reid initially denied committing the crime but then said he should have thrown the officer questioning him onto the tracks, too.

Police say the woman suffered minor abrasions. Another rider helped her get back onto the platform.
