Miss’d America drag pageant finds new home

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – A drag spoof of the Miss America competition will be held this fall at Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa.

The Miss’d America pageant will mesh with a gay-friendly tourism campaign at the casino, as well as citywide efforts to embrace and attract lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender vacationers, The Press of Atlantic City reported.

“We’re really excited to have the pageant at the Borgata,” said Borgata senior vice president Joe Lupo. “A facet we’ve been missing is the Miss’d America pageant and we’re excited to support LGBT.”

The casino partnered with the Greater Atlantic City GLBT Alliance and the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association to host the Sept. 26 show.

The Miss’d America pageant has been held in recent years at Boardwalk Hall, Harrah’s Resort and House of Blues at Showboat Casino Hotel since first returning to Atlantic City in 2010. Since its inception in 1994, it has raised over $280,000 for local LGBT charities and organizations.

Television personality Carson Kressley, of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and How To Look Good Naked, will return to host this year’s show.
