New Kids On The Block: Meet ‘Watermark’s’ newest interns!

With the new year underway, Watermark is pleased to present two new members of our staff — Andrew and Kimberly, our spring interns!

As we get to know them better with each week, we thought our readers should get the chance to get to know them too.

Q: What year are you at UCF?
A: I’m a senior journalism student with a minor in writing and rhetoric.

Q: What made you want to choose Watermark?
A: Well, I needed to get my first internship, so I went to an internship fair. I interviewed with a few companies, I think maybe three or four. I was looking to get any sort of experience possible. I like this publication, and it sounded like a good deal!

Q: I hear that you enjoy the banana-flavored Laffy Taffy in the office. Why?
A: I love bananas, especially greener bananas. Honestly, I think I’m the only one that eats them, so I feel that I have to eat them to save the office.

Q: What’s been your favorite part about being at Watermark?
A: I think it’s been learning something I didn’t know much about before, which is the LGBT community in Florida. I hear crazy and really intriguing stories happening. If it was just me freelancing, I don’t think I would have dealt with stories like this.

Q: What do you think of the cuddly mascot, Seamus?
A: We have a love-hate relationship. I give him many a pet, and I’ve fed him apples, but he loves to chew my shoes anyway.

Q: Do you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain?
A: Piña coladas are pretty good. I think the first time I had piña colada- anything was an Italian ice in New Jersey. As for getting caught in the rain, I like being inside when it’s raining because it helps me fall asleep.

Q: What year are you at UCF?
A: I’m a junior, majoring in journalism and minoring in creative writing as well as in cinema studies.

Q: What made you want to choose Watermark?
A: I’m the type of gal that is passionate about many subjects, the LGBT community being one of them. As a writer, this is what I can do to help. Every little bit is a push forward, no matter how small, and keeping people informed about what’s happening is important in my eyes.

Q: Word on the street is that you liking making terrible jokes. If they’re so bad, why do you still make them?
A: Nothing satisfies me more than seeing the look of horror, disgust and confusion people have when they hear my awful puns. It’s not even the clever ones — they’re just bad. I love it.

Q: What do you think of the cuddly mascot, Seamus?
A: Seamus is love. Seamus is life. Seamus is everything.

Q: Do you like piña coladas and getting caught in the rain?
A: I got caught in the rain once and was sick for a very long time. It was miserable. Piña coladas are equally as bad. I’m going to have to go with no.
